With the rapid growth of the Coptic Orthodox population in Adelaide in the last decade, there was a great need for a new church to serve the congregation living around the eastern suburbs in Adelaide.
With the grace of God, the Church of Archangel Michael and Saint Mark on Reid Avenue, Magill, was bought through an auction on the 03-Dec-2022, followed by the settlement date on 23-Feb-2023.
The original name of the church was Saint Mark, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit through our beloved fathers, our beloved late father the hegumen Abouna Abraam El Baramosy with our beloved father the hegumen Abouna Phillippos Boghdadi, and our beloved father Abouna Bishoy, they agreed on adding the name of Archangel Michael to Saint Mark so the name became Archangel Michael and Saint Mark.
The church of Archangel Michael and Saint Mark will become an important centre for Coptic community life in Adelaide. Church rituals, rites and celebrations allowed the Coptic community to maintain links with Coptic culture, language and traditions and created a sense of shared identity between Coptic church in Egypt. The church will continue to be an important ecclesiastical centre for the Coptic Orthodox Church of Australia.
